Colour of the month Many Shades of Brown - December 2018
Rich, dark, warm brown brings a sophisticated feel to interiors, and more intense brown tones can add a luxurious richness to your home.
Brown tones for me conjure up an "oldy worldly" feel, and knowledge that winter is finally nestling in. With that in mind, I have decided to create an environment using the many shades of brown, which you can play with around your home.
Self-portrait paintings of Rembrandt and Vilhelm Hammershøi and Art Deco fan wallpaper with gold accents adorn the living room walls. Deep brown velvet damask plush cushions on a Chesterfield leather sofa; a beautiful ornate Baroque mirror hanging above a flickering fire reflecting back the entire room. An Italian style chandelier with glass beads and drops create an elegant and sophisticated look.
Through a wooden panelled corridor, enter the kitchen with herringbone flooring, introducing depth to space. A beautiful, rich brown pendant light hangs over the large oak distressed dining table. Otto tiles bring texture and an interesting surface to the walls. Porcelain brown bowls - a collection from Serax designed by Pascale Naessens homespun style- add the finishing touches to the kitchen.
Striking gold-leaf palm wallpaper lends a rich mood to the bathroom, or you can opt for solid chocolate brown walls with a row of tall candles and glass vases to bring warmth to your room.
Picture a bedroom in shades of brown and with a painting by Rembrandt of 'A Bearded Man Wearing a Hat', circa 1655-1660 hanging on Art Deco motif wallpaper. On a simple, flat wooden framed bed, sits luxurious acacia bedding in rich cotton sateens, mini jacquards and bark effect yarn-dyed stripes, all from the Calvin Klein Home range. Finish off the bedroom with dark wood, vintage style side cabinet with books and a birch etched glass lamp holder.
