Ottoman-Venetian House - Cyprus
A little bit of history on Famagusta and the amazing historical monuments surrounding the House –
Famagusta is situated in Northern Cyprus, and surrounded by a medieval fortress. Leonardo da Vinci advised on the construction of the majestic fortress walls.
All this reinforcement helped Famagusta to survive, and it remains today as a modern day port. In the 16th century this beautiful classic residential two-floor building is a combination of Venetian/Ottoman architecture. The house has been painstakingly restored over the past 19 years, and an extension has been added using original Ottoman stones and features.
This beautiful house is close to numerous historical landmarks, some dating back to 1192, when Famagusta become a fully -fledged town. Just to name a few, the Lala Mustafa Pasha mosque is just a 2-minute walk away, the Namik Kemal Dungeon is nearby, and Othello’s Tower, the most famous part of the town wall, is mentioned in the Shakespeare play as Othello’s Castle.
Ottoman Venetian House 16th Century restored over 19 years to its glory -
16th century Venetian/Ottoman beautiful classic residential home, has painstakingly been restored over the past 19 years with an extension to this house built using the original Ottoman stones and features.
The small courtyard entrance leads to a Gothic arched doorway into the main hall with more original arches. There is an open kitchen dining area, toilet and adjacent washing machine space. The ceilings are made of wooden beams and thatch, as the original home would have been.
The stone staircase leads to the 2nd floor lobby, which has huge windows with wooden frames. The windows pour light into the house and offer fantastic views of the harbour and historical landmarks, including cathedrals, in the background. Adjacent to the lobby there are 3 bedrooms and a bathroom, with beautiful windows and wooden shutters, each allowing in the glorious Cyprus sunlight.
