Tribal Motherland

Africa is known as the motherland of humanity, the home of civilisation and has always been a great design inspiration. Often I would visit the African centre and the British museum in London and be captivated by the African arts and music. Personally knowing I had African ancestry made the connection with Africa even stronger. African influences are there in our everyday lives whether it be in Home Decor or lifestyle products or the music we listen to. Africa’s diverse cultural history and vibrant people are creating some of the most beautiful textiles like indigo-dyed yarns, block-prints, batik prints, Kente cloth... all these timeless pieces are being used in luxurious upholstery, cushion covers, quilts. Vintage furniture is being refurbished and placed in vast spaces on polished concrete floors. Africa has a melange of traditions and contemporary cultures that blend together creating a deep connection to nature.
